So that sale over at KLoop is hella fierce. Like you guys have to get over there and get on that sale. I really saved over 54 dollars with GLOW! Anyway, this is what I ordered. Will be getting Tuesday!!! I hope. The IM King tee is a dude's shirt, but I just ordered a small because dudes shouldn't get to have ALL the fun! Actually, this is a question I've often asked people: why do chicks shirts have to say "My boyfriend's out of town" or "Yes, but not with you" or "I just stole your boyfriend!" but dudes get cool graphics on their shirts? WTF is up with that?
Okay that's it. Yay! All of this for only $62.42! Get it girls!

JEWELS Makes Tees!
Duh, it only makes sense that everyone's favorite Staten Islander would somehow find a way to infiltrate all points of street fashion and awesome them up! First she made bags...then pins...she even sent me some stickers...now homegirl makes shirts! Since I know most of you girls are East Coast for life, you kinda have to go buy one of these badass tees. Wear it to school, or work, or to the bodega, or while you're sitting in your fire escape (I want to live in a building with a fire escape so bahyuddd!), wherever. Just wear it! It's cheaper than other streetwear and by buying one you're supporting an independent business and that's important. Plus we ladies gotta help us ladies.
Lord knows the boys won't. Find your favorite tee at The Bubblegum Pony*s Shop. Get it girls!

"The Only Time People In LA Are Nice To Me Is When They're On Drugs!" And What Else Happened at Bright Lights
If anyone remembers, or chooses to, or doesn't give a shit (I still love you), V and I went to the Bright Lights Fashion Show at the Regent/Safari Sam's downtown last Wednesday. Holy complicated run-on sentence Batman.
Due to some personal confusion (on my personal part), we got there two hours before it actually started. Because of this, I suggested we make a Hipster Bingo card. It was sweet. And we got to see Mossy Stone play. They were really good. I liked them a lot and the guy we deemed the Alt/Xavier hipster played in it. We found that to be pretty alt of him.
Then there was this girl, who was not only totally Missbehave, but a model and from afar, V thought she looked like Sarah Morrison. We then assessed that that was because she was hanging around the DJ booth. But she was badass. On the runway, homegirl started break dancing!
I forgot to mention, the DJ was kinda not good. Like sort of too into his music to think about what he was playing. V drew a line chart describing this phenomenon. It kinda went like this:
Sorry guy. Better luck next time?
Then Ellei J came by and took our pictures. She asked me if I was going to blog about this. I said, excitedly, "Yes!" I looked like I was on X (-stacy, not -anax):
Here's V. I think I can put her picture up. It might be creepy/illegal since I didn't ask her first. Oh well, I love lawsuits!
And there was actual fashion too! Once the show started, things got better. Kaviar & Cigarettes was my favorite line that night. I mean, how cute are cigarette earrings? We found our favorite Alt Model (we, btw, used the word "alt" about 2438984038 times that night. We described everything with it. By probably misusing the word to an extreme level, we were pretty alt.), then there was this guy (when he came out I screamed, Is that Steve Aoki?!) and then an X-ed up guy gave us a hug on the street corner.
I said, "The only time people in LA are nice to me is when they're on drugs!"
Then the dudes from Saint Motel caught us walking away from the Regent/Safari Sam's/building and talked to us. Um, yeah, I'm not at liberty to disclose anything that followed. Because it was weird and creepy and it's best if only V and I know what happened.
Finally, after trying to find the alt model, and failing, we went to Pinkberry. Not really. I was trying to convince V to hit the strip club, but she said the club was sketchy on a Wednesday night. I countered by saying, "No, that's when they bring out their A game!"

Party Time '08!
Uhhh whoa. Cat. On. A. Cactus. There are so many bomb.com parties coming up! I'm pretty sure I'll still be in town on December 10th, and by then, I'll probably be fully moved into my new townhouse, so someone totally has to come with me to this! Afterwards, you can totally crash at my place and we'll drink all the liquor we siphoned! Fashion show! Party time! DJ! Shadowscene! Ellei J! Safari Sam's! Hol-la!
Oh sorry about that. I was starting to set the words to a rhythm in my head. Shit was bumpin'.

Make Tights. Wear Tights. Win!
Did anyone catch that? It was a play on the Leeds band Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Yeah, I figured my obscure musical tastes were mine alone. Um, anyways....
Do you like to draw? Can you actually draw? Well? Do you have any imagination? Do you wear tights?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the contest for you! So NYLON is partnering up with BeBaroque (the leg accessories company) to help you (yeah, you!) create the ultimately awesome DIY ever, your own pair of customized tights! All you have to do is download BeBaroque's templates from NYLON's Flickr account and color the pictures in or do your thing and draw your socks off!
Apparently, if you win said design contest, BeBaroque will send you three pairs of...um tights and socks, I guess, and they'll sell your personalized pantyhose all over their site! Can you say "famous" boys and girls?
So get busy sketching, mon petite artistes! If ever there were tights I wanted to wear, they would be designed by you guys!
Deuces,
Erika

Gawd, Models Are Dumb
Once upon a time, my boyfriend and I went out to Castleberry Hill in Atlanta and shot some snaps. Sadly, I was really crunched for time and had to go have lunch with my friend, so he couldn't take the rolls to Wolf's Camera like he planned. Instead, he reluctantly handed them over to the non-profesh people at Walgreens, who, in turn, as he says, "shat on his pictures" by not developing them properly. Oh well. He's going to try to get the negatives developed at Wolf's. In the meantime, busy yourselves by looking at a few photos from said shoot.

And then if that doesn't keep you occupied, head on over to my Tumblr, where I'm currently talking about my shit life. Grazie!

Fashion Is For The Skinny
I know I have touched on this subject before...but here I am again! Recently, what with not having cable, I've been practically living on the internet. I have also been stumbling upon a lot of good fashion blogs lately. Personally, I can't really stand fashion blogs because they irk me. For some reason, everything always seems so contrived. The poses, the perfection of the details, the looks on their faces...Whatev. It's sort of hard for me to put my irritation into words. Conversely, I also really like looking at them because I like to see how other people put clothing together.
But yet again, I see one common denominator. These chicks are skinnier than most. Not model skinny, of course, but that kind of thin that makes them look good in anything. Like, I know fashion blogs are not for replication, but it's like...of course these girls look good in ripped tights and a home-sewn minidress...when you're slim, it's hard to look bad in a lot of things that are fashionable. I mean, I don't know. I guess on the one hand I just want there to be average looking girls doing these fashion blogs. Can't a size 6 start documenting what she wears everyday? And on the other hand, it's not my job to solely regulate body size for fashion blogs. I mean, really.
Oh well. I am a study in contradictions. I would start documenting what I wore, but that would just be cliche and yet another heel-print in the worn down path of self-promotion. Life is confusing, and annoying, and fattening. Fashion is too.
What is the real message here? I need cable.

Erika

Mooka Kinney Nooooo!!!! But Then...Yesss!!!!
As a poor girl, I pour all of my mental millions into the rad, chic fashion I can never hope to afford that I see in the glossy 8.5 x 11'' pages of fashion magazines. So far, by my calculations it would seem that I have gone bankrupt from spending my virtual fortune on Mooka Kinney.
I luff Mooka Kinney. Espesh when I learned they dressed Lovefoxxx from CSS and the girls from one of my fave bands, Tilly and the Wall. The clothes are like what I would wear everyday if I were a size 4, had long silky golden locks, wore brown eyeshadow, and lived my life as a personal homage to Jane Birkin. I've been slowly plotting the day where I can actually afford to walk into I Heart NYC and buy up a storm of jumpers, peasant dresses, and pleated skirts.
But ALAS! I just heard that Mooka Kinney is no more! After a small vigil of lavender scented candles and Nico, I am okay. Because it turns out that 1/2 of MK, Rachel Antonoff, has made a line of her own. And it's wonderful! It's like 40's Brighton Beach splendor for girls that aren't a size 00! And she got ScarJo to model it, which really doesn't excite me, but she also got Alia Shawkat to model it too! And if I look as good as they do in Antonoff's stripey jumpers and frilly dresses, then I will feel, like, soooo complete you guys.
More pics after the nonexistent jump!Don't you just love it guys??? Love for the not so skinny set!

Shoes and Cats! Together! Punch Punch!
Look at these shoes! See them?! They have cat faces on the front of them! They're kinda ugly and look like they were designed by a fourth grader who, in between rocking these feline kicks, would wear Crocs for building mud bridges during recess. And they're $250! But they're also Marc Jacobs, so you have to buy them! Don't you want to be a fashion maverick?? Don't you want the Sartoralist to take photos of you looking like you don't care or are too chic to care that the Sartorialist is taking photos of you! Don't you feel the sarcasm is my nonexistent virtual voice? Don't you want to be BLOGGED about?!?!
Punch punch?

I'm Confused
What is going on with fashion? Are we out of rules, guidelines, trends, and do's and don't's? Is it just everything and anything goes and if you look like a schizophrenic 57 year old bag lady then you are cool because you have your own style?
As it is, I've never bought much into trends (except for skinnies, which will never die in my eyes, and leggings, because they are the amazing bastard child of comfort and style), and I've always been an advocate of personal style and that whole Fuck you, I wear what I want, bitch! attitude. But uh, street style is turning into a circus. We need some serious Allure's Top 5 Beauty Trends and Nylon's Fashion issue over here like whoa. Before I mistake walking down the street as tripping on a speedball.
Like, are designers just creating tacky shit because they know people will buy it? Cos I will slap a Prada label on a bedazzled sack cloth and sell millions if that is how ish is going down. This is getting out of hand.
I think the new rule of fashion is:
As long as you are between a size 00 and size 2, you may wear anything you want. This includes circus tents, Hammer pants, AA dresses, bikini tops as shirts, those weird gladiators heels, dresses made out of paper that are stapled at the seams, bikini bottoms as shorts, and pretty much anything that a six year old would wear to her birthday party.
Miss Wintour, you may call me for more pointers for your annual fashion issue. Kthx.
This ain't a scene, it' a goddamn Mardi Gras parade. (images via facehunter and click/clash)
