So. Tomorrow is my last day in Atlanta. I have been here for almost an entire month, doing what I would like to call ineffectively attempting to pretend I never left. You can deny the change inside you, but it doesn't do you any good. So I can't keep denying I haven't been changing since I left Atlanta almost six months ago. I can't deny it especially because all this change is making me more into the person I really want to be.
BUT on a much lighter note, tomorrow is another installment in Criminal's Beer Thirty, their weekly midday show during which you can drink and listen to music. Ummm, awesome combo. And tomorrow is my favorite show to date: Los Campesinos!
Not only am I excited to see LC! live, but I'm excited to see them indoors, since Criminal Records used to be a lot smaller and in-store shows were outside...even in the dead of winter.
Oh also there will be cupcakes! I hope. I asked Lillian if I could bring some and hopefully I can! (ps: lillian if you read this before your mail, pls check your mail, gracias)
Basically, as this trip winds down, so does my old life. I want to close the door on it once and for all. It's like I was telling my friend, "I have a lot of things to take care of before I can really start this year." And I will. And it'll be HARD, but worth it? I hope? Say yes?
And so that's that. Well, tomorrow that will be that. Officially. And then I'll be back to LA, the land before time, where the rest of the country is at least an hour ahead of us.
Then again, I would take hearing about who won an Oscar later than everyone else over the 30 degree weather that is ravaging my beautiful body at the moment. Anyone read the forecast? It's fucking 70 degrees over in my hood.
Huh. I so did have somewhere I was going with this post right now, but I have no idea what it was. Perhaps that is a mental hint that I should go eat some of the doughnuts my mom brought home.

Bye Again!
This morning I am leaving for Atlanta once again, only this time I'll be gone for a month. Things should get pretty interesting this time. Life lessons were learned, revelations were had; the year is slowly ending itself, and from what's happened so far, it seems like it'll only give way to a thousand awesome beginnings.
Hopefully I'll be able to keep updating things pretty frequently seeing as I'll be held hostage in my mom's home without a car (blegh, 25 to rent a car is so bullshit). I'm also excited because Sam and I are going to see Band of Horses on New Year's Eve and my gay bffl are going to party at all the gay clubs. And apparently there's a gay restaurant we're going to...just makes me wonder when Atlanta got so gay.
Anyways, I leave for the airport at 8:30 am, so I'm off to clean a little and then go to bed. I hope you guys have a fantastical Christmas break. I really do. And to totally segue, I would like to leave you guys with this video, of a song that's been in my head all day.
Sometimes I really want this song to play when I enter a room. I guess it is, in my head.
Goodnight world, and have a pleasant tomorrow.

"Chik-Fil-A Doesn't Exist Here" And All The Other Reasons Living In More Than One City Is Confusing
I took this picture while driving around. I had time to kill so I just drove and drove and drove through three counties. Funnily enough, I don't even remember in what county this picture was taken.
So I have been feeling really out of place here in LA. I haven't found anything that just makes me feel like I belong here. Not yet anyways. I think I want to leave, and then come back. I also think I want to go to New York. There's no denying how amazing it is. What I love is how you can live your own life and yet stay connected to the city simultaneously. It's such a living, breathing city. You can tell when its sad, or happy. You can feel it when New York holds its breath, and you can let out a sigh of relief when it does.
Anyways, totally NY unrelated, I have also been seriously thinking of going back to Atlanta. I will admit it has gotten a little bit funner (although the vast amounts of fun are still reserved for those 21+), I still feel like I should stay in LA a little longer. That is one of the things I love about LA. Not only are there OODLES of things to do for the under-car-renting-age crowd, but it's all right there, in your face. In Atlanta, you have to dig deep and seek out the fun. It takes time and patience, but then again, those aren't as popular in LA as they are in the South. Which brings me to something else. The South is sloooowww. LA is FAST! Move fast, live fast, meet people fast, do things fast, fast food, fast women, fast money, fast everything. ATL is slow cooked, slow churned, strolling along, hard work, perseverance, patience, blah blah and so forth. I don't know if I can handle that.
But I have been looking at apts in Atlanta and I could save a ton of money by moving back there. We're talking 800 for a studio apt to 675 for a one bedroom. With a washer/dryer in it!
A part of me feels like if you go to LA, you should be ready for it. You have to be prepared to fully open your arms and your mind to everything it has to offer, or else you'll be sad, disappointed, and lonely. Only now am I ready to immerse myself in LA, and funnily enough, I'm not really ready at all.
So Alex, if you do want to write that book about me, don't do it in pen, because you'll probably get tired of scratching things out over and over again.

TTYL!
In about an hour and a half, I'm hopping on a plane and heading to ATL for Thanksgiving! Expect some not so live blogging and highly infrequent updates. But when I come back, expect awesomeness! Because there's a serio surprise coming in the not so future! Get ready!
In the meantime, I'll leave you guys with a video of one of my favorite songs. It REALLY sucks that byoP had to release a second EP with this song on it, because I never got around to buying that EP.

Gawd, Models Are Dumb
Once upon a time, my boyfriend and I went out to Castleberry Hill in Atlanta and shot some snaps. Sadly, I was really crunched for time and had to go have lunch with my friend, so he couldn't take the rolls to Wolf's Camera like he planned. Instead, he reluctantly handed them over to the non-profesh people at Walgreens, who, in turn, as he says, "shat on his pictures" by not developing them properly. Oh well. He's going to try to get the negatives developed at Wolf's. In the meantime, busy yourselves by looking at a few photos from said shoot. And then if that doesn't keep you occupied, head on over to my Tumblr, where I'm currently talking about my shit life. Grazie!

I Can Do Anything You Want Me To Do So Long As I Don't Have To Speak
Today is a big day ladies (and whatever gentlemen that may come trolling through)! This morning my hot shot photographer boyfriend is taking model-y pictures of me over at Castleberry Hill. I'm super excited. We're using all my clothes and accessories and I had the final say on all the outfits so you know they're going to be super kawaii! Sorry about that...I have a slight Harajuku Lovers obsesh. It got worse when I worked at the Sanrio Boutique. But enough about my old career history.
This isn't going to be any Cobrasnake type ish, so don't worry guys. But the pictures will be developed on Friday and when I get 'em, I'll scan 'em so you all can discuss how pretty I am! Just kidding...maybe you'll talk about more relevant things, like how there's less trees in the background due to acid rain and global warming or something.
Anyway, I'm just letting you guys know I'll be gone for half the day (ugh...6:00 am wake up time, meh) but will report back as soon as possible! (Cos I know you guys can't survive without my posts and all...you get cold sweats and hives and start seeing little leprechauns planting daisies and such...)

Last Night, She Said, Oh Baby I Feel So Down
This is the cake we baked for Chris last night. It was my idea. In case you can't tell, it's in the shape of a can of PBR, the grossest beer ever, but Chris's favorite.
Last night was my friend Chris's 21st birthday. When I left him he was anywhere between beer number 11-13. This is the debauchery that went down, ATL style.
First we went to the bowling alley. By the time we got there Chris was already on beer 7-9. He's a pretty fast guy. Bowling shoes were 8.00 to rent, but apparently you don't need them, because they don't really give a shit if you bowl in your regular sneaks. Yay! 16.00 saved!
After everyone ate cake and the bowling alley played all of their Lil Wayne songs, we headed out to this bar called The Local, which I very quickly got kicked out of. LAME. FAIL. But Chris and his friends were so cool, they all decided to leave since I couldn't stay. So then we stood in front of the bar while Chris did flaming shots and a crackhead gave me and this really nice girl Amanda some flowers.
Then we walked to Fellini's for some pizza around 1 am and that's when this dude named Pat showed up. We'd seen him at The Local when he was buying shots, but were all very surprised to see that he'd followed us to the pizza parlor. He sat with us and everyone got a little drunker. Chris was having trouble standing up.
That's when we all decided to go to the Clermont Lounge...the worst strip club in Atlanta. No, no, wait. Maybe the Pink Pony or Folly's might be worse...noooooo...the Clermont wins. You're looking at very old women who don't really give a shit about their bodies while they gyrate indescribably in front of you. It ain't pretty folks. Just ain't pretty.
Around 2 am, on the way back to the car, we stopped by Fuck Yesss, which as everyone knows, is the crazaziest indie dance party in the A. Christ, people. That shit was the physical definition of Hipster Runoff. It was ridic. I could've played Blackout on my Hipster Bingo card and won immediately.
After that we dipped out and I came home and collapsed in my bed. But it was a good night. I'm stoked to turn 21 in LA. Yay party!

Tilly And The Wall: The Aftermath
I took this picture two days ago, at sunset, while driving. I hear that's like, dangerous, or something. But it came out nice, and that's all I care about.
So as you all know, I went to see Tilly and the Wall tonight. Well, I should probably say last night, since it's technically the next day. And let me just say, being so young and all, I've usually felt like the youngest person at a show since most of the venues I frequent are a safe haven for High Life guzzling, high waisted skirt wearing, 23 and 24 year old hipsters. But for once, I actually felt old. There was just a spread of little hipsters in training, ranging from about 15 to maybe 17 at the oldest, that looked as if they'd raided every thrift store and Baby American Apparel in the area. It was almost sad. But mostly it was entertaining.
Anyway, I took mad amounts of pics and whatnot, so now you can feel like you got to rock out to Tilly with me! Even though you didn't.
First, my bf and I went to Village Pizza for early dinner. This is what it looked like. As usual I refused to talk while there was a camera on me. I always look stupid when that happens.
This is the Village Pizza bike, but they don't deliver with it anymore. They just get edgy hipsters to drive their Honda Accords to houses bearing pizzas. After that, we headed over to the Variety Playhouse. That's when I ran into two people I went to high school with. Awkward...So after that I ran into the Coathangers before they took the stage. They said "hi" to me and then began speaking to me in warm, friendly tones which immediately made my bf look like a douche because he didn't believe that I knew them. I don't know why those red spots in the eyes are so obvious, but I look really flushed because it was pretty hot in that place.
Then there was a man running around, talking to members of the Coathangers, dancing with himself, funneling drinks, etc. He threw himself into the picture, very yearbook style.
After we shot snaps, the girls went on.
So then we saw the Ruby Suns, but none of the pictures turned out well, so I won't force you to strain your eyes and/or cock your head to the side at odd angles so they look okay. But I did talk to some kids about how sexy the drummer/lead vocalist was. The Ruby Suns had New Zealand accents, so all the girls were pretty much ready for marriage by the time they finished.
Then it was Tilly and the Wall!!! During the set transition, they played Justice and Outkast and yet the only two black people in there (i.e. us) were the ones dancing. People laughed at us though, with sort of envious smiles, like "Lord, why can't I dance that well and without inhibition?" But back to Tilly!!
The girls were so on point with their clothing, ya'll. I think I read somewhere that Peggy Noland and Mooka Kinney outfit them, so it makes sense. After their set, the crowd continued to cheer and clap and make a ton of noise. See, it's a Variety Playhouse tradition for the band to leave the stage, then the audience keeps clapping and cheering, and the band comes back on to play one more song. Tilly and the Wall were no exception. They all came back out and played "The Freest Man" and then, my personal favorite, "Night Of The Living Dead," which I figured they HAD to play since it has a lot of lyrics about Atlanta. It was rad.
Oh yeah, sorry about how mildly blurry these pictures are. Then again, there's a reason I don't put "professional photographer" on my resume. Oh yeah, and in case anyone was wondering, I was wearing a high-waisted jumper, my homemade Coathangers shirt (yeah I actually made that shirt! And I always get queshes from people asking me where to buy it!), and pink sneakers from Urban Outfitters. I was pretty fucking hipster-ed out, son.
Oh! And that reminds me! I won't be here at The Disco for the weekend since me and my amiga are road-tripping to Tennessee to see one of my old high school friends. So until Sunday night, you guys'll just be hearing from Miss Lolita Hazed, but that's still a treat, right?
Catch ya'll mothasuckas on the motherflipping flip side!
Deuces,
Erika

Straight Representin'
Tonight I'm going to see Tilly and the Wall at the Variety Playhouse. I'm super stoked and you may be super jelz. But as stoked as I am to see Tilly, and the Ruby Suns, I'm even more excited about seeing the Coathangers.
I have seen the Coathangers live going on three times now and it's always eggpants awesome! (The Coathangers and the Black Lips, Snowden, the Selmanaires, Noot D'Noot, and DJ Treasure Fingers are the few acts that make me super proud to rep ATL!!!) They always put on a super fun show. I was at their album release party and awesomeness occurred: they offered me beer, gave me sparklers, and during their set they broke a piƱata! Some candy went in the direction of this little toddler and then Julia Kugel, the lead singer, started shouting, "You almost hit a baby!!! You almost hit a baby!!! And there was a mini horse with a horn on his head!! Everyone was calling him a unicorn!!
See, nothing but fun with these guys. I saw them again at Record Store Day (did anyone go out to their city's RSD celebration? I loved mine...I got to see at least 10 bands and eat up hot dogs and pizza for free and then I bought some vinyl for about $4, and then Lillian gave me some MIA bandannas...it was rad!) and they totes did not disappoint. There was silly string and balloons and face masks...one of which they gave me, and then I got Stephanie Luke to sign my drumstick! Ha! Rusty Coathangers <3's me! Anyway, so this made me start thinking...sometimes when you're stuck in a place you're not really inclined to liking, music is like a temporary savior, right? So do you guys have any local bands that you get excited about and see lots and lots of times and sort of know and all that jazz?
And Mz. Sullivan, you can't answer because you've got Million Dollar Mano, Hollywood Holt, Cool Kids, and Kidz In The Hall in your neck of the woods and that's just unfair! Stupid Go-Ill killing the game right now...grumble, grumble, grumble. So talk about your local music scene! And then I will lord over you with my awesome ATL music scene! Yay! Upperhand!
P.S. And just in case you kinda think you might like the Coathangers, there are mp3's, the link to buy their album, and their music video below! Peace up A-Town down!
The Coathangers: "Shake Shake"
The Coathangers: "Don't Touch My Shit"

Dip. Lo.
Current time: 2:56 am.
Show start time: 10:00 pm
This is the recount of the events that took place between those four hours.
First, we get to the Whirlyball. I am immediately bombarded by this surly dude barking, "Can I see your ID?" at me. Yeah, fine dude. I present said ID and then they proceed to mark me up by writing X's on both my hands and my wrist. Mentally, I'm thinking, just calm down. I won't drink. Chill, Rembrandt.
Noot D'Noot begins playing. It is doubleplus funky. Like, the kind of funky that has an A in it. It's FUNKAYYY. With three Y's. Yeeeeaahhh. So funky even the hipsters begin some noncommittal dancing.
SIDENOTE: I really wish I'd brought a Hipster Bingo card to the show because I would have definitely gotten Bingo by the end of the night. There was a white boy afro, PBR, an ironic mustache, hot Asian, Chuck Taylors, High Life, Parliament cigs, an 8-foot tall guy, and a 4-foot tall girl. Yeah, I would have won many times over. Okay, now back to your regularly scheduled blogging...
So after Noot we go into the back room and watch drunk people play Whirlyball. And then I run into Mathis, my old pal from the Selmanaires. We talk a bit, recount some memories, and laugh, laugh, laugh. Dark Meat goes on, but we don't go see them, we just stay in the back room talking to DJs and rockers and secondhand smoking.
Then it's...well, then it's Diplo. He comes out, tossing basketball shaped whistles and plastic covered CDs into the crowd. He starts the set with a variation on Bucky Done Gun. The whole audience begins to sway in dancing, oceanic, awesomeness. I sort of forgot a good bit of his set but I will run down the best songs of the night:
MIA "World Town"
Daft Punk "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" in some kind of Diplo edit
Outkast "Rosa Parks" and then "Bombs Over Baghdad"
Li'l Wayne "A Milli"
Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in some kind of Diplo remix fashion
Soulja Boy "Yahhh!" at which point everyone sings the "Yah, yah, bitch!" part and shakes their hands in people's faces for the "get out my face" part
Le Tigre "Deceptacon"
Mims "This Is Why I'm Hot"
And then people, Diplo plays "Paper Planes." Word! Everyone goes apeshit. It's amazing. Cue the gun shaped hands pointed to the sky. Diplo sprays the audience with silly string. He kills it.
I will have pics up when I get my camera back from my boyfriend on Tuesday. I currently smell like cigarette smoke and ganja. I'm tired as fuck. Sometimes people smell. Bad.
Deuces,
Erika

Best. Saturday. Ever?
Alrighty Aphrodite, I'm getting ready to leave for the sweet ass Diplo/Noot/Dark Meat set I waxed poetic about yesterday. I cannot wait. Swearz, if you see me, please say ohai! I'm hoping Oh Snap! or Midnight Socialite will be there. Actually, I'm praying.
In other news, Missbehave is breaking it down on the East coast at Union Pool. The New Yawkers sure know how to make beer affordable. Little Jackie is also kicking it at Fort Greene Park. You should go if you know what's up.
Hopefully pics of the former two events will follow tomorrow. I also decided I'm going to cover more of the NY/LA/ATL party and concert scene, for the good of all of our social calendars!
And don't sleep on the new Batman joint. Tickets should be bought in advance!

Diplo Tomorrow!! Punch Punch!!!
Normally I like to post show flyers and reminders the day of, for no real reason, just to let people who suffer with me in Atlanta to know there's something else they can do that night instead of putzing around in the Virginia-Highlands and getting drunk off PBR (though both have their merits). But this time, I gotta let the ATLiens know in advance what's going down tomorrow.
Diplo is coming! Dark Meat is supporting! NOOT D'FUCKINGNOOT is opening! That's right! Chunklet is back again, presenting us unworthy Atlantans with another show of spectacular proportions! If the idea of going bananas to the sounds of Diplo isn't enough to whoo you into coming, please let Noot D'Noot be it. The funkiest sounding band in Atlanta, Noot is fuhreaking amazing. I've seen them twice already and every time is a new, badass experience. Seriously. Srsly. Punch. Punch.
Come out to the Whirlyball tomorrow, get drunk on High Life, and then dance all night! Oh! And look out for me! I'll be wearing something bright and/or flashy. If you see a medium height black girl with a short bob and emerald eyeliner, or hear a sort of loud voice and/or weird laugh, you've found me! Say hai!
Tix can only be bought at Criminal Records and picked up in person. No orders, no exceptions.
$10 in advance/$12 DOS
Doors open at 9 pm
Show starts at 10 pm

Punch punch! Holla!

4th Of July '08: The Aftermath
My final 4th of July stats:
Headache (but no hangover, suhweet)
Two scratches: one really long one going up the back of my thigh, one going down my shin
The dirtiest feet you've seen since slavery
A chipped mani
Awful pictures
The day starts off nice enough. We head out to Piedmont Park but every black person in the city of Atlanta has claimed a grill. It's like a fucking Johnson Family Reunion every you go. We manage to negotiate use of a grill from some Europeans. The burgers are really good, the shrimp is undercooked, and Chris has too many High Lifes.Andrew's girlfriend is crazy and they really love wine. We all have too much wine.
Then Andrew and Co. ditch us to go makeout/feed the ducks and the rest of us play Frisbee. Occasionally (when I throw it), it wanders into the Europeans area. They seem mildly annoyed.
Afterwards, my bf, Chris, and I head out to The Ditches (this abandoned skate ramp), which requires we trek through a jungle-like path of vines and ant hills, jump a few Restricted Zone gates, and walk through sand. I do all of this in a minidress and flats, cos I am a rough and tumble chick. Before we get to The Ditches, we stop in the sandy part and take the time to explore it. It's actually an abandoned construction zone so we all lose our shoes and run around. Some Safety Dancing is done. Fun ensues. I feel like a ten year old all over again.
The Ditches smell like rotten water and shit. It is now a water runoff area. I have to pop a nasty squat, one way worse than any pissing outside a club. Oh well. Sometimes I am like one of the boys.
Then we head out to the Mattress Factory Lofts and watch the fireworks at Turner Fields and Six Flags. Everyone on the rooftop is crazy drunk. We meet back up with Andrew and his gf. They have more wine. Chris gets propositioned by a lady cop, whom I like to call The Vadge With A Badge. He tells her not tonight. Pictures are taken. Then we light some bottle rockets. After the fireworks, we all head our separate ways and that is that.
End of 4th of July.
Too bad everyone got really pissy with each other by the end of the night, 'cos I had a kinda good time.
Deuces,
Erika

4th Of July Fun In The...Rain?
So today is my 4th of July/2nd birthday bash in Piedmont Park. The awesomeness was lined up last night: BBQ, beer, frisbee, and fun. Except it might storm today. And tonight, while we're watching the fireworks from the rooftops. Grrrrrrrreat.
The guest list was pretty final (me, my bf, his old roommate, my gay bff) until about 3 pm yesterday, when my gay bff called and said a sudden trip to his grammy's for the 4th came up. Boo. Hiss. Lame. I called my bf and let him know and he said he would ask if anyone else wanted to come. I told him I didn't care if I knew them or not. The more, the merrier, right? Right?
He called me back later that night and said his friend Andrew and his girlfriend would come. I don't know either of them, although I did speak to Andrew once vicariously over the phone when he was at my bf's apartment. But then I thought about his gf.
I was super tempted to ask if his gf was pretty, or tall, or fat...but I was afraid of being chastised for sounding irrationally superficial. But girls know what I am talking about right? Like when you see another dude's gf you kind of want to look better than her. I mean, you are a representative of your bf, just like he reps you. Maybe it's just me, but I think chicks can dig that sentiment.
Anyway, so hopefully today goes super. And we don't get rained out. 'Cos, uh, my hair and water do not mix unless it is in a shower and Herbal Essences is involved.
Oh and shoutout to Jtalk who hooked all us Missbehavers up with a way to watch Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. I'm hooked! Thanks girl!
Happy 4th bitches!

Happy Birthday, Erika
Oh...shhhh...listen to that sound...it's me screaming in the distance. Why?
BECAUSE IT'S MY BIRTHDAY BITCHESSSS!!!
If I said I was not waiting twelve months for this single moment in time to happen, I would be lying. I don't know what time it says this post went up, but in Atlanta, it's currently 12:18 am. My boyfriend and I are gonna take out the grill, the beer, da birfday cake, and the fun to the rooftop of these lofts in Downtown Atlanta for a combined 4th of July/Erika's birthday bash spectacular. Equation as follows:
Erika+birthday+fireworks+midnight madness=Sooo much fun!
If you live in the Atlanta area, are not SUPER creepy, are available all night on July 4th, like to hang out with black people and white people that wish they were black, and like free drinks, hit me up and come celebrate the madness with me!
Presents are mandatory. Those who are not in ATL can send them in the mail. I also accept direct faxes of your credit card info. Thx.
Bringing the bashes to the masses!
Deuces,
Erika
UPDATE: I found this rad video on Youtube. It's to a different Erika, obvi, but I'd like to pretend it was made for me.

Yay For Crim!!
This is Criminal Records. If you live in Atlanta, you should be there.
The death of record stores? Psshah! They're totally alive and well. And even have a day made just for them! In compliance with the AWEsomeness of record stores 'round the country, Paste Magazine compiled this little ditty:
The 17 Coolest Records Stores In America.
Why 17? Who the hell knows? They're not in any particular order, although Criminal does come second on the list...not saying, just saying.
Check to see if your hometown shop is on the list...and then cry/grumble with anger when you see it's not. Because we all care this much about record stores.

Fuck Yeah Fest
If you haven't heard about this (and you uber lurve power pop!) then consider this the reminder of a lifetime! Tomorrow, the Fuck Yeah Fest (aka F-Yeah Fest for retarded censorship purposes) is rolling through Atlanta! Pop and comedy and drinks at the Whirlyball?! Who could ask for more!
Tix are available at Criminal Records or you order them online at Ticket Alternative's website. Good people working over there. The guy I used to intern for actually works there now. But you don't care about my career history.
You care about this fabuloso lineup!
Matt & Kim
TheDeathSet
Team Robespierre
Monotonix
Comedy by Josh Fadem
The show is all-ages so bring your little kids and then make them stand in the lobby while you dance your ass off! Fuck yeah!! DOORS AT 8 PM!!!
I've got my bright purple H&M leggings and rainbow colored top! Are you ready? Get ready!
Now I'm going to go back to watching this Doctor Who marathon on SciFi!
Deuces,
Erika
