No one likes rainy days. Well, I do. In the spring. When they're calm little rainstorms that make you feel cute and feminine when you use your umbrella, or make you feel cozy and peaceful when you're sitting inside. Since it's raining today, I thought I would compile a playlist for a day like this.
April March: "Cet Air La" - April March is awesome. She's kinda important when it comes to the world of 90's chick rock. This is one of her calmer, sweeter songs. And it's in French, which is j'adorable.
The Velvet Underground: "After Hours" - I love this song. And I love this album. This song is just so sweet and earnest. I always want to be looking out a window over the city at night when I listen to it.
The Spinto Band: "Oh Mandy" - You might recognize this song, actually. It's mildly popular, and so sweet. It's about this guy who wants something that's always out of reach, and he knows it, but he tries and fails to get it anyway. Sadcute.
No Saving Grace: "Sandbox" - I actually don't know that much about No Saving Grace...I picked up this song sort of randomly, but it has a nostalgic feel about it. It's sort of sad, and the words are muddled, but I like it nonetheless.
Vivian Girls: "Where Do You Run To?" - Um, love the Vivian Girls. And this song is so perfect for a day inside and a cup of tea.
The Postmarks: "Winter Spring Summer Fall" - This song is awesome because it feels so 70s and Charlie Brown-esque. But then again, the whole album is magical like that.
Prints: "Blue Jay" - Not too sure if it's completely appropriate for a rainy day playlist, but this song will definitely brighten up your day and make you feel a million times more happy and hopeful if you're down.
Marcy Playground: "Sex and Candy" - I gotta represent the 90s here. This is a totally perfect song for rain. Totally perfect. Like disco lemondade.
Broken Social Scene: "7/4 Shoreline" - With all the BS(S) those guys have been coming out with as of late, I think it's time to take a step back to the basics. Did anyone see what I did there? With the initials of Broken Social Scene? Clever, right?
The National: "Green Gloves" - Did I ever mention that Boxer was one of fave albums of '07. It really was. It's such a fucking good album. Oh plus I always try to close my playlists with The National if I can help it.
That's it. It's probably dry wherever you guys are, so I suggest saving this playlist for a rainy day. See how I did that there? That pun I used? Yeah. I can see it already. I'm gonna be so clever in '09.

This Time Just The Girls
Basically if I could form a perfect girl band it would be like the Coathangers. I would be Stephanie (the one with the bangs over her eyes). Only it would also involve sparkly ribbon headbands, 80s synth keyboards, glitter eyeshadow, and be called The Savage Ivories.
Sigh...it's finally Fall. Well, not here, in the volcano-temperature Valley where it still gets to the mid 90s during the week, but in general. And even though colder weather is my favorite, it usually sends me into some kind of temperature induced sadness, like when some people get depressed due to the fact that it's dark so much or whatever. So to combat the aforementioned sadness, I delve heavily into my music stash, putting together playlists and mix CDs that create a winter wonderland full of swirling ambiance and delicious memories. Normally, I would a throw playlist your way, but this is no ordinary winter. This is one of empowerment and feminism, so with that, I've compiled the Fall Fem Fierceness playlist: the best fall and winter tracks from the badassiest females in music. Which would you guys add? Feel oh so free to let me know.
Sara Lov: "New York"
Jenny Lewis: "Rise Up With Fists"
The Watson Twins: "How Am I To Be?"
Asobi Seksu: "Walk On The Moon"
Cat Power: "Lived In Bars"
The Breeders: "Doe"
Be Your Own Pet: "October, First Account"
Northern State: "Three Amigas"
Regina Spektor: "Better"
Magneta Lane: "Constant Lover"
Pony Up!: "Shut Up And Kiss Me"
Charlotte Gainsbourg: "The Songs That We Sing"
The Long Blondes: "You Could Have Both"
And there you have it. Plus a few personal all time favorite riot grrrl songs:
The Grown Ups: "Nick and Nick" (Ummm, a song written back in like '94 about how the dude this girl fell in love with fell in love with a boy, using the lyrics "suck it in the dick" and "which one is the chick" is like pure gold.)
The Cougars: "Brain Cactus" (Surriously. If you don't feel badass when you listen to this song, you never will. And I hurt for you.)
The Chubbies: "Didjahavtasaythat?" (We all know this feeling.)

Don't Tell Me My Love's Not The One That I Want
It's something that I don't say often, except about this particular CD: "I feel like this album was written for me." I said it only once before, sadly, in reference to Fall Out Boy's Under the Cork Tree album. Gawd, I know, that speaks VOLUMES about my musical preference in high school. I swear it's better now everybody. V can vouch, trust.
So when I was an intern at the now defunct 99X radio station in Atlanta, I, like all other interns in all other corporations, got access to THE CLOSET. For fashion interns, the closet is filled with clothing. For business interns, the closet is stocked with office supplies and paperwork. For kids slaving away in the entertainment world, I assume the closet is full of film reels, headshots, profiles, used syringes, and discarded one dollar bills. But for a wide eyed eager beaver devoting her energy to typing CD case labels, running mail, snapping shots for the website, stacking autographed posters, answering phones, and occasionally sleeping/eating her weight in vending machine goods/watching Seinfeld reruns in the break room, THE CLOSET is the compendium of musical goodness and history, the reserves of every album that was every played and will be played at the station in chronological order. I spent a good bit of my time in the closet (once I was there sorting CDs for six hours straight. I could not look at a Foo Fighters or Jane's Addiction record the same since), and while most of it was boring (put Rogue Wave in the R's, file Beck in B, stick Serge Gainsbourg in S, not G), I was rewarded handsomely. The deal was, remove any and all albums that had been in the closet for more than three months and put them in a box. After I finished, my boss would skim through and take out what he wanted and then I got to take whatever was left. Naturally, I got wise to the system and started getting clever. Hmmm, I don't have this Black Keys album...it's kinda old...and into the box it goes! My boss had an amazing collection of music, and we had varying tastes, so I usually got everything I wanted from the closet.
Among the free deliciousness was the Nicole Atkins record, Neptune City. The album came out back when I was still in the pussyfooting stage with my boyfriend. I had the pleasure of seeing Nicole Atkins when she opened up for the Pipettes last winter, and I remember just standing there in a crowd of about 200 people packed into a bar not fit for its occupancy level, mesmerized, because I felt like she was singing to me, for me, about me. But then the Pipettes came out and I spent the night dancing, getting touched by some creepy dude, and walking barefoot on the street because I lent my flats to my friend who was stupid enough to wear heels to a concert when she barely wore heels at all. Feelings and sentiments passed. Emails were sent out and an internship was secured.
My boss knew of my interest in Nicole Atkins. Queshes about said concert were asked and answered accordingly. Then I went digging in the closet, doing my internal duties (guhross!) and I found the Nicole Atkins album. Not one for sappy chick music, my boss let me take it, no arguments made.
I am almost embarrassed to admit that almost a year later, I have finally listened to the whole album. It is incredible. It speaks to me like few records ever do. I sing to it, cry to it, identify with it, and dance to it. You need to own it. Here, I'll help you.
Nicole Atkins: "Maybe Tonight"

Let's Do It Again!
So it sort of came to my attention as I was driving along Sunset Blvd tonight that I haven't heard/looked into any new remixes lately. I also haven't posted any good remixes in a long time. Maybe it's the club kid in me, but I love a good remix. Not the warehouse bullshit that's just sounds and blips and electronic squeaks over some basic bass beat. No, I like the real remixes, the reinterpretations and reevaluations...the kind made for you to listen to on your headphones, not when you're hopped up on E and waving pink glowsticks on a sweaty dancefloor. Although those are fun nights too!
And seeing as I once aspired to be one of those DJs that specialized in the club scene (that's a whole other story altogether!)...you know, the kind you read about on Missingtoof that make those monthly mini-mixes (whoa alliteration!)...I have a shit ton of good remixes just lying around. So here's my WNTR RMX PLYLST (or my winter remix playlist. I thought it looked cooler abreeved, yes?) And I know it's still a month or two until full blown winter, but...well don't get so caught up in the details, okay??
WNTR RMX PLYLST
Crystal Castles v Health: "Crimewave (Sinden Remix)"
Paper Route Gangstaz: "Bama Gettin Money (Diplo Remix)"...this one is one of my fave jams!
Bloc Party: "Hunting for Witches (RAC Remix)"...the only remix of this song I haven't already posted...I guess it's pretty remix-able!
Glass Candy: "Clowns (Ssion Remix)"...does anyone remember Glass Candy? I talked about them awhile back...
Klaxons: "Atlantis to Interzone (True Psuedo Remix)"
Now download these rmxs, turn up your laptop's speakers reeeeally loud, and be musically cultured jerks everywhere! Yay!

The Pilgriming Vine
Uhhh...I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I'll do it again: I love Basia Bulat. She has to be the prettiest, sweetest Canadian singer this side of Broken Social Scene. After hearing her song, "In The Night" about a year ago, I fell in absolute j'adore with this golden haired songstress. So for my, and your, personal enjoyment and pleasure, here's the debut video for her single, "The Pilgrimming Vine." And then below that are a few downloadables so you can get clicky with it. Oh, and here you can buy her debut album, Oh, My Darling. Happy trails campers!

Blister In The Sun
Welcome to the hottest day of the year boys and girls! It's supposed to be anywhere between 96 and 99 degrees today, but I will still somehow manage to brave the heat and hit up H&M ...because that's just how dedicated I am.
The recent heat wave has forced me into longing for Autumn in the worst way. It is my favorite season: the peacoats and wool jackets, the collared shirts with sweater vests, the thick, colorful tights under summer dresses, the closed toe heels, the knit caps and scarfs, and the fingerless gloves...it's all so much fun. Plus colder weather gives me plenty of leeway to gain three or four pounds and not have anyone scrutinize me at the swimming pool. Normally, it would mean I don't have to shave my legs either (which is such a hassle in the summer!), but this Autumn has blessed me with a bf who will only make fun of my hairy legs. Great...
So with all that said, I thought I would compile my list of Autumn songs. I used to have a list that was about 50 or so songs deep, but that just goes to prove how weird I am about music. Anyway, people have the misconception that summer songs are fast and poppy and once you get into the cold seasons, the music has to be slow and moody a la Beach House or Animal Collective. But not so! Here I present you with my Fall music...feel free to add your songs below.
Because I'm nice and it's either this or calling the bank to ask why there was a processing error in my electronic check, I'm posting mp3's of the songs below the title. Read and listen!
Band of Horses - The Funeral: Come on, this song is timeless, and gorgeous. Plus the video is really sad. Also, I love BoH. "No One's Gonna Love You" is my and bf's song...geeky I know, but cute, right?
MP3
Malajube - Pate Filo: Secretly I want to move to Montreal, open up a scone shoppe, and spend my nights drinking red wine in bathtubs of other people's houses. And I also cling to the hope that it'll be like The Science of Sleep.
MP3
Aesop Rock - Daylight: Um, Aesop is kind of awesome. This song is a little older, but still just as good as his new stuff. None Shall Pass, btw, is crazy good. I can't even begin to describe Aesop.
MP3
The A-Sides - We're the Trees
MP3
Au Revoir Simone - A Violent Yet Flammable World: I love those cute Brooklynites! ARS' music is so pretty and so strong, which is a little unexpected since you have three Nylon cover ready girls making music. It's still magical.
MP3
Basia Bulat - In The Night: The prettiest Canadian musician I've ever seen, Basia Bulat is amazing. She has a gorgeous, sparkling voice and blond locks to die for.
MP3
Blonde Redhead - Misery Is A Butterfly: Kazu Makino has fantastic vocals on this song. I kind of think of Blonde Redhead as Bjork with a band, but everyone wants to dispute me on this.
MP3
Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Follow You Into The Dark: Are you kidding me??? Perfect fall music! Plus these lyrics are beautiful. Oh, brooding, thoughtful Ben Gibbard...
MP3
Sea Wolf - You're A Wolf: The first time I heard this song, I was in LA (heard it on Indie 103.1 holla!!!) and I thought it was heavenly. So will you!
MP3
Super Furry Animals - Run Away
MP3
The Futureheads - Skip To The End
MP3
Les Breastfeeders - Funny Funiculaire: This all goes back to formerly stated love of Montreal and French Canada. Oh and French Canadian pop punk.
MP3
Pony Up! - Shut Up and Kiss Me: Girls with guitars that sing about realistic subjects and say things like "I am sorry that you're stupid, I can't be your fucking cupid" make me soooo happy!
MP3
White Hinterland - Dreaming of the Plum Trees
MP3
Sean Lennon - Dead Meat: Hands down, favorite song by Sean Lennon. Done.
MP3
All right! That's all folks! Hopefully you guys find some new Autumn music that you like! And don't forget to tell me your faves! When will it be cold already???
Oh yeah, and poor Missbehave is a day late and a dollar short on my car theft. I wanna tell them not to worry about it now, but I guess it's too late (too apologize!).

Straight Representin'
Tonight I'm going to see Tilly and the Wall at the Variety Playhouse. I'm super stoked and you may be super jelz. But as stoked as I am to see Tilly, and the Ruby Suns, I'm even more excited about seeing the Coathangers.
I have seen the Coathangers live going on three times now and it's always eggpants awesome! (The Coathangers and the Black Lips, Snowden, the Selmanaires, Noot D'Noot, and DJ Treasure Fingers are the few acts that make me super proud to rep ATL!!!) They always put on a super fun show. I was at their album release party and awesomeness occurred: they offered me beer, gave me sparklers, and during their set they broke a piƱata! Some candy went in the direction of this little toddler and then Julia Kugel, the lead singer, started shouting, "You almost hit a baby!!! You almost hit a baby!!! And there was a mini horse with a horn on his head!! Everyone was calling him a unicorn!!
See, nothing but fun with these guys. I saw them again at Record Store Day (did anyone go out to their city's RSD celebration? I loved mine...I got to see at least 10 bands and eat up hot dogs and pizza for free and then I bought some vinyl for about $4, and then Lillian gave me some MIA bandannas...it was rad!) and they totes did not disappoint. There was silly string and balloons and face masks...one of which they gave me, and then I got Stephanie Luke to sign my drumstick! Ha! Rusty Coathangers <3's me! Anyway, so this made me start thinking...sometimes when you're stuck in a place you're not really inclined to liking, music is like a temporary savior, right? So do you guys have any local bands that you get excited about and see lots and lots of times and sort of know and all that jazz?
And Mz. Sullivan, you can't answer because you've got Million Dollar Mano, Hollywood Holt, Cool Kids, and Kidz In The Hall in your neck of the woods and that's just unfair! Stupid Go-Ill killing the game right now...grumble, grumble, grumble. So talk about your local music scene! And then I will lord over you with my awesome ATL music scene! Yay! Upperhand!
P.S. And just in case you kinda think you might like the Coathangers, there are mp3's, the link to buy their album, and their music video below! Peace up A-Town down!
The Coathangers: "Shake Shake"
The Coathangers: "Don't Touch My Shit"
"Tonya Harding"
The Coathangers - "Tanya Harding" from ataricharm on Vimeo.

I Spit Hot Fire
He can sit next to me on the bus any day!
Okay, before I even talk about this post, the title of it is from one of my favorite Chapelle's Show episodes. If you can tell me anything about it, like what the short was about or what show it was spoofing, I might just love you. And if I meet you, I'll give you my issue of Missbehave Magazine number five autographed by Miss MIA herself. Just kidding. I totally would never do that. Still, I would think you were cool.
Anyway, onto the point, right? Soooooo....we all love Diplo here at The Disco. (Isn't it awesome how I can refer to this virtual place like it's some kind of real office or something? Someone could come along and assume The Disco had a physical location, with a mailing address and everything, which is stupid, 'cause real G's rock P.O. Boxes, y'know, so they can't be traced.)
Back to Diplo. I luh him. He is a sexy manz. We have all seen him. Most of us have seen him live. Diplo is known for his ability to put fire on any track. He did it with "Rollin" and "Bama Gettin' Money." This man is no joke. Straight up fly-er than a tsetse.
He did it again with Santi. I actually don't know what the original track sounded like because none of my friends will buy me the Santogold album (Oh poo, you guys are low on money? Not when the weed man shows up! Now buy me that record!), but Diplo made it 32749371294 times hotter.
You gotta put this song on and just ride...y'know, like me, only I always ride dirty. Or blast it while you're chilling at home and see how long it takes for one of your roommates to ask what you're playing. Either way, Diplo spits hot fire ya'll.
Santogold: "Starstruck (Diplo Remix)"
Cop Diplo's newest mix, Top Ranking, here mothasuckas!

Agent Ribbons
As I've said before, it's definitely summer. And unyieldingly so, since it's looking like temps in the 90s all week here in ATL. So while the hipsters and businesspeople spar it out with Starbucks in the hot summer sun, I'm gonna stay here in my nice, cool, ceiling fanned room and sort my earrings by color.
In between that, I guess I'll be listening to Agent Ribbons. The two piece combo of Californian retrophiles guitarist/vocalist Natalie Gordon and drummer/guitarist Lauren Hess, Agent Ribbons is like the soundtrack to a summer day in 40s era Brighton Beach or Coney Island. But hey, something else reminds me of Brighton Beach! The perfect combo!
Anyway, I have a hard time describing Agent Ribbons, mostly because while I did do some time as a music journalist, I'm certainly not a trained one. So I'll just say that their music is perfect summer fare. It sounds delicately vintage and shimmering, but at the same time modern. So it is almost the all female equivalent to Beirut (Ohhh Zach Condon, marry me pls). Agent Ribbons have played with Social Studies (my SF FAVES) and even opened for Cake. How boss is that?!
Their debut album, On Time Travel and Romance, is an amazing album, full of light guitars, bells, horns, and happiness. And while I'm aware that happiness isn't an instrument, it's all you can feel when you listen to this album. My absolute favorite song is "Obituary." I'm not sure what it's about exactly, but it's the cutest, nicest song I've heard in a very long time.
Luckily, I found some mp3s for download, but you can actually download a lot of their songs off their myspace. Also luckily, they tour a lot in CA, so when they come back from their UK tour in October, I'll be able to see them live. So suck it GA!!
Unfortunately, there's no really great live video or imeem track to put here, so you'll sort of have to just go listen for yourself, but please do, because these girls are amazing!
Agent Ribbons: "Obituary"
Agent Ribbons: "Birds and Bees"
I guess you can expect a lot more posts on awesome female songwriters/bands because all of a sudden everyone got really good!

Perhaps The Best 80s Song To Be Created Post 80s
I have not posted anything today. I'm sure that's obvi. That's because I went to H&M today and bought this really rad jumper and chatted up the sales associate. She has bangs and a haircut like mine, and suddenly we were two besties, with everything in common. I complained about how many people call me Rihanna. She gabbed about how much she liked Rihanna. I rebuttled in an opposite fashion. Then Saliesha from Top Model came up. She's never seen the show. Upon that admission, I paid for my jumper and left. The rest of the convo was doomed.
Anyway, I started thinking about 80s songs after watching the music video for "Hello" for like the umpteenth time, and that brought me to this.
Van She is Australian. They are also remix gods. And techno divas. They are a lot of things. If this was high school, Van She might be voted Biggest Overachiever.
Back in 2006, they made an EP. With this song on it. Obvi, this girl is very popular around the music world.
This song is AWEsome because it sounds so uber 80s pop. But it was made over two decades later! Yeah! Do the math! Yeah! Over 20 years! Aren't you smart?!

My Only Offer
Mates of State are cool. They are also hot. They are temperaturally compelling. Their music is good. That should be enough for you to want to purchase their entire discography.
If it is, you can find it here.
Let's say it isn't. Well, uh, okay skeptic. MoS's new album, Re-Arrange Us is yet another gem in their indie pop crown. The album is magic. That's right. Once you listen to it, you magically become very happy and okay with life. Yeah, regardless of what else is going on around you.
To further convince you of their ethereal powers, Mates of State made a video. Yay. The directions for use are as follows: Peep. Smile. Rinse. Repeat.
Mates of State: "My Only Offer"
Love it like u crazy!

Pieces
Okay I'm currently in love with this song. Like, for seriously. Can't get it out of my head, wake up singing it, put it on as soon as I get in the car kind of infatuation. Normally I'm not a big fan of country/indie pop/rock girl groups with a twang-ish guitar and harmonic vocals. I usually leave those sorts of bands to the girls who like Liz Phair.
But this time they trapped me. I swear I listened to shit just like this when I was in like 10th grade. Why am I musically devolving?! It's good stuff nonetheless.
I saw the Bridges live once, when they came up to Atlanta to perform for National Record Store Day. I wrote a little bit about it here. I thought they were great. You'll probably think that too, unless you have no heart.
If that's true, you don't deserve good music. So there.

This Is Yellow
This post is brought to you today by the letter G. And the letter L. And A. And S. And S. And C. And A. And N. And D. AND Y.
It's a busy day for letters, obvi. If you couldn't put all ten letters together (you need to learn to read), I'll help you. Glass Candy.
No, it's not slang for the shard infused candied apples mean spirited people (read:me) give out on Halloween. It's even better. It's music.
Glass Candy is some kind of something. They reside permanently in Hustle Town (where I happen to have a summer home) and probably spend their nights falling asleep to "Boogie Wonderland" in the rebuilt Studio 54.
Fronted by Ida No, a glorious glam goddess of the mic, Glass Candy makes electro music. But it's almost not enough to say they make electro music. They make something out of this world, really. It's sexy techno, it's R&B, it's got a little bit of pop to it. You want to make love to it, you want to skate in a roller rink to it, you want to blast it while your driving cross country at sunset.
I once read that Ida No and crew hail from Jersey. Then I read they were from Portland. No one knows, obvi. Their latest album B/E/A/T/B/O/X got an 8.1 out of 10 from Pitchfork. They pretty much stay out of the states when they tour, but they even have a date lined up for a show in 2010 on Mars! How bomb is that?! They're gonna colonize that planet before we can!
Their label, Italians Do It Better Records, is really obscure so actually getting your paws on anything Glass Candy is very difficult. Espesh trying to get any new or vinyl releases. You can get some of them here.
I highly recommend jetting to their Myspace and listening to the tracks that aren't readily available, like "Candy Castle" and "Beatific."
"Digital Versicolor"
Glass Candy: "Digital Versicolor"
Glass Candy: "Life After Sundown"
There's always light on the horizon.

Holy Shet!
Do you like 90's girl bands?! Do you like AWEsome bands that are fronted by chicks?! Do you like putting a ?! after all your sentences?! Rad!
All of this is just the preamble to the new mp3 I am about to post on this blog. That's right, I'm going to try to get more mp3s up on here so people can be introduced to new, sick, music that they might never hear. I've been told my musical taste is unparalleled.
Yes, it does count if I told myself that, thx.
Anyway, I just heard the most AWEsome song in a long time.
It's by a group called Miss Derringer, it's amazing, it's totally channeling that supreme 90s girl band feeling, I love and you will too.
Miss Derringer: "Black Tears"
More Derringer:
"Better Run Away From Me"
Miss D is touring with Blondie and will be in New York 6/15 - 6/19, then back to
LA on 7/17. Lucky bitches go peep scene!
This is about to become a music pirate's wet dream, I can feel it!

Dance Party '08!
Everyone likes a good remix. I know I DO. The best part about a really ace remix is that sometimes it's actually better than the original song. Not in all cases. But sometimes a remix can turn a boring song into an ALL NIGHT RAVE JAM. Yeah. It had to be typed in all caps. And because it's Saturday, I am happy. I had a cool ass dream last night, woke up and still had sight (which is surprising because I've been crawling into bed these days without taking out my contacts), and I'm making fried apples for breakfast. In honor of the latter, I present my Fried Apple Remix List:
(via MT)
Klaxons: "As Above, So Below (Justice remix)"

Bring The Blow, Bring The Noise!
I forgot this song existed too! I'm going to have start a feature on songs I used to blast back in the day.
Back when I was still in the pussyfooting stage with my boyfriend, I heard this song. You know that stage, when you're good friends with a dude and you're dropping hints that you want to get serious but just not sure if the dude feels the same way about you...that's the pussyfooting stage.
In '06, the Blow came out with Paper Televisions. I heard this song on the radio, and became intrigued.
Anyway, I listened to this song hours on end. It was my jam. I sang to it constantly. It fit my situation perfectly because we were five years apart and he lived in East Atlanta while I lived in the suburbs. We eventually got it together, and this song got me through it.
Every time I sing to this song I tear up.

Miss Rap Supreme Is Already Rappin
Okay, I don't know if anyone watches the 2nd season of Miss Rap Supreme or not. But I just jump from vh1 reality show to show, so I obvi ended up starting to watch it. It's a good show. I'm voting for Rece Steele, because she's so sweet, but Byata is a bad chick.
Anyway, there's a rapper chick on there named Nicky 2 States. She's really hard...lyrically, of course. Riiiight...
So while listening to one of my favorite producers Diplo, and his partner Benzi, on their Fear and Loathing in Hunts, Vegas mixtape, I noticed something. There's this track called "Woodgrain" on the mix, and with some digging (light blogging), I found the original, whole version, which is like 6 minutes long.
But guess who's on "Woodgrain?" Nicky 2 States! She's a got a really sweet verse on there, and I just thought that it was kind of crazy that she's trying to be Miss Rap Supreme when she's already doing work. It's weird, but impressive. Check the track for yourself.

"Modern Drummer" Video
Okay, I know Stereogum got to this before I could (how could they not? They are an illustrious online music megasource that gets the worm before the early bird does, and I am merely a blog that happens to occasionally cover music), but I saw this video last night on Subterranean and I almost had an epilepsy.
I guess Ungdomskulen is like a metal-ish rock band. They're from Norway though. That's pretty much the only kind of music they have so...you have to assume.
There's a lot of flashing light/strobe/rave '95 action. With rainbows of colors. It's pretty crazy. The whole thing is like the end-of-semester project you have to make in your computer/graphic design class. I don't really like it. Well, actually, I guess it's not so bad. Here, you can judge for yourself.
I think the song is about some guy professing his love for some great drummer. Oh, I don't know. This thing is tricky. Norwegians...I know this isn't like the normal music I post a video for, but I kind of like it in a Metalocalypse way.
