I used to be naive and kind of stupid and believe that regardless of how many people get everything in life because they know people who know people, I would win out because I was getting everything on merit and hard work. But this isn't 1862. Hard work alone doesn't get you shit. You have to have connections.
There are girls who get to go to amazing parties, meet incredible people, do ace things...for no reason but who their parents are. Yeah, maybe if my aunt was Anna Sui I would be singing a different tune. But as it stands, I tried to get a really good job based on what I knew.
Currently, I am unemployed. All my friends are working two jobs. Because of who they know. One friend got a high paying job at a Japanese daycare center because her mom used to teach there. My other friend does audits for an insurance company because his friend hooked him up.
Hell, I got an awesome internship at the now (sadly) defunct 99X radio station because I knew a guy working there. I didn't have to apply for the position or anything, and I got free run of the station. It was amazing.
But there are like a ton of chicks out there who are amazing, rad, ace women with incredible things to say and do. But life is not about what know, it's about who you know.
And these ladies don't know a goddamn person.
Deuces,
Erika

soo freakin true today its all about "networking" I see it all the time and it kinda sucks b/c all that means is "hey dont concentrate on your niche, learn how to keep folks numbers and socialize..." like I said it sucks, maybe there should be a group called "people who dont know people but work hard",but then again would it be an oxy moron b/c it would be a group of people who will eventually know it each other and probably hook each other up? hmm all I know is it sucks!!
Haha...yeah. I see it to and it's just so unfair to all the people out there with really good ideas and admirable goals and all that...they'll never get to get it out there while Cory Kennedy continues to do everything for nothing.
Hmmm...maybe this post was really just about an underlying contempt for CK?
HMM maybe soo...that darn girl cory!!!! if only i was skinny skinny longed hair....ummm nah i rather just be old me...pshh
Ooh, I have such contempt for cory kennedy. I don't wear makeup or brush my hair and I always look a hell of a lot cuter than her, but she is famous-ish and I am not. Than again, if it makes you feel better, I got a really amazing internship this summer without knowing anyone at the company. Twas based solely on merit and I feel pretty good about that.
Yeah dude that's definitely something to be proud of! But...how do you go without brushing your hair? Do you comb it? Is there some kind of conditioner/ish you can put in it? I would like to know.
Haha, well as a (very) white girl I kind of have an advantage in this situation. I condition it usually every day using this really good conditioner I got at Trader Joe's. But I never comb it unless it gets really ratty. My hair is one of the main reasons everyone I meet assumes I'm like a total hippie.
this is sadly very true and I'm guessing you read teen vogue too I hate how all the girls in there have some powerful relative and thats the only reason they even in to the issues...
I don't work a 9 to 5....thank Gawd!! I work at night...ahem, ahem. Yeah, but anyhoo I do feel ya on the whole connection thing. The truth is, nothing in this world will completely change...especially when it comes to the rich...thats why when we the "working class" get the chance to be powerful, we must lend out our hand to those deserving of it. Its is a shame, that you must know someone to even get a job at McDonalds. WTF!
